Learning to love.
The scariest thing I could think of doing was standing in front of a camera, nearly nude. The best thing I have ever done for myself was posing in front of Kay’s camera, fully nude. I was able to learn to love myself in an entirely different way than ever before.
Being someone who has a chronic disease that affects the way their body looks day-to-day, hour-to-hour, it can be difficult to feel confident in yourself. Signing up for this experience was scary because it meant accepting my body, no matter the shape or condition. Because of Kay and her photography, I am now not only able to accept my body every day, but I am proud of it, every curve, muscle, scar; I see the beauty and am unfettered by my old prejudices. I feel feminine, sexy, strong, delicate, and proud. I think doing boudoir helps you to find a stronger connection to yourself, whatever that may look like for you.
Going into the shoot I had no idea everything I was signing up for. Little did I know it would be the single most empowering thing that I have done for myself. Let me say that again, the single most empowering thing I have done for myself.
Walking into hair and makeup I was almost shaking. I had debated pulling out the night before due to nerves. Kasandra Dakus brought me into the room and started straight away. In between conversations, she continued to make sure the hair and makeup were done the way I was imagining.
Once complete, I got to meet Kay. Immediately, I was met with the biggest smile and the most incredible energy. She offered me a beverage (yes, Mimosas are an option), and then she showed me to the change room after we had chatted a little. Kay had pre-picked a few options for me to wear and they were all jaw-dropping. Being nervous, I started off in a forest green mesh outfit that covered me enough to still feel comfortable. However, as soon as Kay started to set me up in poses in a way that felt so natural and within my body’s limits. We moved into another lingerie set, until finally shockingly to myself, I told her I would like to try some nude boudoir. To my surprise, I argue they are the best photographs she took the entire shoot! Kay made it feel both fun and safe at the same time. I still remember the breathtaking moment when she showed me the first photograph. It was me, she had really captured how I felt inside, in these photographs. I will truly never forget this day for my entire life. Kay made sure the day went flawlessly - from the emails to me throughout the process to the hours spent in the studio helping me find my strength and becoming empowered. I would not change this experience for anything. I accredit Kay so highly with how above and beyond she goes, as well as how incredibly organic and carried out her artistry is. Being someone who was beyond nervous to take the step into boudoir, I strongly advise that if you are considering booking with Kay to do it!
